The 2G rule in retail has been lifted.

Richard Grimm, retailer from Freising, is relieved - but not uncritical.

Freising

– First it was relaxed, now it falls completely: The Bavarian administrative court has overturned the 2G rule for retail, according to the state government it is now being completely suspended.

This means that you can now buy again regardless of your vaccination status.

Richard Grimm from the household goods store of the same name on Obere Hauptstrasse in Freising is one retailer whose shop was affected by the restricted access for those who had been vaccinated and those who had recovered.

He is ambivalent about the lifting of the 2G rule.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Mr. Grimm, from now on anyone who wants to can buy from you again.

Is that good news?

The fact that the 2G rule is now being completely suspended in retail is of course a relief for us in that we no longer have to check.

After the rule had already fallen for the clothing stores, we were still one of the few industries that had to control.

Now one rule applies to all transactions again.

That's fairer.

The question that has always been asked anyway was that of daily needs.

For example, the 2G rule never applied in the book trade, but is a book more of a daily necessity than a frying pan or a coffee maker?

This separation is very difficult.

There was also a shift within the sectors.

We were only allowed to sell pans to people who had been vaccinated or had recovered, everyone could get them in the supermarket.

That was just unfair.

In your opinion, did the 2G rule still offer advantages?

There were definitely customers who felt safer with us because they knew that there were no unvaccinated people in the store.

Enough customers appreciated that.

And right now, with these infection numbers, the question naturally arises as to whether we can reduce the incidence with such easing.
