Poland refusing to comply with certain decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Brussels has carried out its financial threats.
The European Commission demanded, on Thursday, 69 million euros in penalties from Warsaw for non-compliance with the CJEU's decision on the disciplinary chamber of the Polish Supreme Court.
This sum corresponds to the amount of the penalty payment of one million euros per day of delay (between November 3, 2021 and January 10, 2022) in the execution of the decision of July 14, 2021 to abolish the disciplinary chamber of the Polish Supreme Court.
The penalty was pronounced on October 27.
For the first time, the European Union is confronted with a Member State which rejects a decision of the CJEU, and refuses to pay the resulting penalty.
