Orange, blue, purple with glitter and yellow flashes from the wicker basket that 98-year-old Luise Jahn is holding on her lap as she sits on her walker in front of the Fressnapf store in Buchenau.
Olching/Fürstenfeldbruck – In her basket there are more than 20 woolly-soft, knitted wrist warmers, also known as "stutzerl".
All homemade, at home in Olching.
The reason why you meet the 98-year-old in the Brucker district more than ten kilometers away is partly due to Corona.
Luise Jahn has been selling her hand-knitted wrist warmers at the Christmas markets in Puchheim and Maisach for over ten years.
“Whenever I have time, I sit down and continue knitting.
This keeps my fingers moving,” says the trained master tailor.
But because of the pandemic, sales in the markets failed.
However, the woman from Olching did not take a break from knitting.
And that's how more than 100 Stutzerl have come together so far.
The pensioner casts on 40 to 50 stitches per sock, uses different colors, patterns, normal or fringed wool.
She has always knitted.
It used to be larger pieces, such as entire traditional jackets, says Luise Jahn.
"The wrist warmers are especially useful for dog owners in winter," explains her daughter Susanne Jahn-Yildiz (67).
Because the socks are gloves without fingers, making it easier to fish treats out of the bag.
Together with the Fressnapf branch, Luise Jahn and Susanne Jahn-Yildiz have started a charitable campaign: anyone who donates to the Munich animal charity can take a pair of socks with them.
The basket is now on display in the checkout area.
