China continued to lead the world in shipbuilding over the past year, after the recovery of maritime transport around the world.
According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the output of shipbuilding in the country reached 39.7 million tons during 2021, an increase of 3 percent year on year, indicating that this output represented 47.2 percent of the global total.
New orders for shipbuilding rose by 131.8 percent on an annual basis to 67.07 million tons, representing 53.8 percent of the global market share.
The ministry indicated that six Chinese companies were among the top 10 shipbuilders in the world in terms of output, new orders and existing orders, respectively.
