A driver died in an accident near Fürth on Saturday morning.

The man collided head-on with a truck.

Langenzenn – A fatal traffic accident occurred on the B8 in the district of Fürth* on Saturday morning.

An 82-year-old drove his Polo into the oncoming lane and collided with a truck there.

Any help came too late for the senior.

At around 10.45 a.m., the pensioner drove on the B8 in the direction of Neustadt ad Aisch.

The accident then occurred at the level of the Langenzenn-Nord exit.

On the single-lane bridge, the man's Polo pulled into the oncoming lane.

An oncoming truck was unable to brake in time and collided with him.

The vehicle was massively damaged, writes the police in Central Franconia* in their press release.

The 82-year-old was trapped in his car as a result of the collision.

The fire brigade had to free him with heavy equipment.

However, the impact was so severe that he died at the scene of the accident from his severe injuries.

The truck driver was not injured, but required psychological care.

It is still unclear why the pensioner got into the oncoming lane.

Officials from the Fürth Traffic Police Inspectorate were used to record the accident.

They received support from an expert who was commissioned by the public prosecutor's office to determine the cause of the accident.

The fire brigades of the communities of Langenzenn, Burggrafenhof, Seukendorf, Wilhermsdorf and Bräuersdorf were also deployed.

The federal highway 8 had to be closed for several hours for the accident recording.
