Geretsrieder Klaus Sandner has a very special treasure: the guest book of the former inn Korb.

He gave our newspaper an insight.

Geretsried – The Korb inn in Geretsried existed for almost 30 years.

During this time, the inn with the large hall received visitors for numerous festive occasions.

In addition to the people of Geretsried, international and prominent guests came and went there.

A glance at the guest book, which has been in Klaus Sandner's possession for more than 40 years, proves this.

Discovered by accident

After our report on the inn on Elbestrasse, Sandner contacted the editorial office and offered our newspaper to browse through the guest book. The 78-year-old also revealed how he got hold of the book. "I used to work for the Speck company as a master craftsman," says the native of Saxony. "And from my foreman's office I could look straight over to the basket." When the inn had closed its doors forever and was due to be demolished, Sandner, who was often a guest in the inn himself, went over there again. "All the books had been torn from the shelves and were lying on the floor," recalls the trained accordion maker, tuner and lathe operator. He discovered the guest book and took it with him. Sandner: "A week later, an excavator with a wrecking ball pulled up and flattened everything."

The Korb family arrived in April 1946 with the first grass strands in the Buchberg camp on today's Böhmwiese.

In 1949, the expellees leased a bunker on today's Elbestrasse to open an inn there.

As reported, the family ran the restaurant for almost 30 years, later a residential complex replaced the bunker.

Singers and actors immortalized themselves with their signature

The guest book that Sandner saved is probably not the first of its kind. The first entry dates back to 1959, when the business had existed for a number of years. "Anyone who really wants to eat well should only travel to the basket" says the first page. And the people of Geretsried, who organized family celebrations there, followed this advice, as did companies who invited guests. Singers and actors also gave each other a hand.

For example, pop singer Barbara Evers, actor Jean Thomé and the Fahrnberger siblings, a German singing duo consisting of Rosa and Anni Fahrnberger, signed an autograph card.

The sisters appeared in the 1950s with popular hits, they also had several film appearances.

Folk singer and actor Georg Blädel, known as Blädel Schorsch, was also a guest.

A writer thanks for the "1A trout", another for the good Faber coffee.

There are also entries in English, French, Spanish and Korean.

The members of a Danish delegation signed, as did four Indian journalists from the Hindustan Times.

There is also a menu in the guest book

On special occasions, the large hall was festively decorated. This was the first real anniversary that the city celebrated in 1975: namely 25 years of Geretsried. A menu is enclosed with the guest book. Lobster cocktail, liver consommé, venison and rabbit leg Viennese style, cured tongue with vegetables, veal medallion and beef fillet were served. As side dishes there were Bohemian dumplings, mashed potatoes, parsley potatoes and a mixed salad. A fine drop should not be missing either. For the anniversary meal, the kitchen served a 1966 Nierstein Ratsherrenwein and a French Beaujolais from the same year. For dessert, the chef served peach melba and pastries.

A photo of ex-Chancellor Helmut Schmidt is also in the guest book.

Below it is written: "Thank you for good hospitality in your hospitable house".

The last entry is dated April 12, 1977. A visitor from Northern Ireland writes: "Thank you very much for the excellent meal, our compliments to the house." Almost half a year later, the popular restaurant closes its doors forever.

Klaus Sandner likes to think back to his Sunday visits to Gasthaus Korb.

"We met there when we were 17 or 18, before we went to the cinema," says Geretsrieder.

Good trousers, a clean shirt and a “smart jacket” were worn.

"We watched TV and drank half a wheat beer on the occasion." It was a real ritual.

The senior: "Back then, not everyone had a television."

nope

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Wolfratshausen-Geretsried newsletter.

Series In our series "Historic Taverns" we present former Geretsrieder restaurants in no particular order.
