Andrés Manuel López Obrador underwent a cardiac catheterization this Friday.

The president of Mexico entered the Central General Hospital in the capital and is out of danger.

He is expected to resume his public activities as of Saturday, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior.

The 68-year-old president suffered a heart attack and had to undergo surgery in 2013. The government explained that, due to this history, López Obrador undergoes physical examinations every six months.

The president had his studies done around half past ten in the morning: a stress test, an electrocardiogram, a tomography and laboratory tests.

Doctors determined that he needed to undergo catheterization, a procedure in which a tube (catheter) is inserted into a blood vessel to diagnose heart conditions and conditions.

The procedure was performed at half past four in the afternoon and lasted about 30 minutes.

"The president's heart and arteries were found healthy and functioning perfectly," reads the statement, signed by Adán Augusto López, head of the Interior.

"The president is in perfect health," said López.

Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, the government spokesman, had already announced this afternoon that it was a scheduled review and without major complications.

López Obrador fell ill with covid-19 on January 10.

It was the second time he had contracted the disease, after his first infection in January 2021. After spending a week of isolation and rest, the president reappeared publicly last week and said he had no complications.

"My treatment consisted of taking care of myself, isolating myself, drinking a lot of water — that's what doctors recommend — paracetamol for just two days, when I had a little discomfort, I didn't want to take it any longer but that was enough, honey for the throat, although lemon is expensive, I tried not to put so much on it, and remedies that we all already know”, he described.

“We are out of contagion, it went well for us,” said the president upon his return.
