The COVID-19 outbreak in Kwai Chung Village has expanded. Five days after Yat Kwai House was ordered to be enclosed, the Centre for Health Protection announced today (22nd) that 96 residents or visitors have been preliminarily positive or confirmed to have been diagnosed. One resident was initially positive or confirmed, and there was also a case in Hiu Kwai House.
After Ying Kwai Building was enclosed and tested at 4:00 this morning, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced in the evening that the enclosure operation of Ying Kwai Building will be extended for 5 days immediately. The residents of the remaining Kwai Chung Village and the two adjacent Kwai Fu Court blocks are required to undergo mandatory testing. Kwai Chung Village alone has involved about 37,000 residents.
On January 22, 2022, it happened to be the second anniversary of the first confirmed patient in Hong Kong. On this day, in Kwai Chung Village, staff and police officers wearing a full set of protective clothing were stationed from time to time to prevent residents from escaping through the back door. .
