The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned today the United States and NATO countries launching a systematic, toxic campaign against Moscow instead of responding to its proposals on security guarantees.
“The White House and its Western allies launched a highly toxic media and propaganda campaign depicting Russia as an aggressor, an enemy of Europe, and a threat to international stability, instead of focusing on answers to the fundamental questions posed in the Russian documents,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russia warned the United States yesterday against giving a disappointing response to the security guarantees proposals, stressing that it will take serious political decisions in this regard.
In a related context, in response to the US allegations about Russia's planning to invade Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the ideas presented in the recently published US article on this are completely false and do not stand up to objective scrutiny.
The ministry pointed out how the United States exploited misleading methods to justify military interventions in independent countries, referring to the "Powell flask" after former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, which Washington claimed contained evidence proving Iraq's production of weapons of mass destruction to form a pretext for American aggression against it.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the US humanitarian aid represented a drop in the ocean compared to what Moscow provided to the residents of the Donbass region in southeastern Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the United States and other NATO countries that supported the coup in Ukraine in February 2014 are the ones who bear full responsibility for undermining the stability of this country, pointing out that these developments pushed the Crimea to return to the strength of Russia by organizing a popular referendum, while the Donetsk provinces were announced. Lugansk gained independence from Ukraine.
She stressed that the US State Department's publication of the aforementioned article prior to the talks that took place yesterday between Russian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and the United States Anthony Blinken in Geneva is a blatant provocation.
