(ANSA) - TURIN, 22 JAN - The curtain falls on the story of the former Embraco, the Whirlpool factory of refrigeration compressors in Riva di Chieri, in the province of Turin.

For the 377 workers still employed by the company, protagonists for four years of many battles and events - from the Sanremo Festival to the Giro d'Italia from the meeting with Pope Francis in Brussels - the redundancy fund formally ends today and only the perspective of Naspi, the severance pay allowance.

Two meetings are scheduled for Monday at the Piedmont Region Labor Department. The first will sanction the lack of trade union agreement on dismissals, an act that will allow the bankruptcy trustee to send the indispensable letters to certify the end of the employment relationship and allow workers to submit Naspi's application. In the second meeting, the Region will start the path of active labor policies, which will be put in place from February: interviews will be held with individual workers who will then be able to follow the training courses most suited to their skills. In the meantime, the workers will have to choose whether to sign the agreement for the Escrow fund that Whirlpool left to settle the debts and close all disputes: this means for each worker about 7,000 euros gross and the waiver of each claim. But for it to be valid it must be signed by at least 90% and this is not likely to happen.
