The new RVO timetable was a problem for the private village school in Walchensee at noon.

A solution has now been found for the affected children from the Tölz region.

Walchensee

– The Walchensee line 9608 has been running hourly since mid-December.

This fulfilled a wish of the districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen to open up the tourism region better with public transport.

The travel times of the buses are coordinated with the arrivals and departures of the trains.

What is a blessing for commuters and tourists became a problem for some of the elementary school students in Walchensee.

Especially for the third and fourth graders from the Tölz region, who would have had to wait 45 minutes for the next bus at noon.

According to the general opinion of the authorities, this is reasonable, but it is still long for the children, especially for those who then have 60 minutes left on the bus.

Because the village school in Walchensee is run privately, there is no entitlement to promotion as with a state school.

New concept for third and fourth graders

Now the school has developed a new concept for the third and fourth graders, which will come into force after the carnival holidays. As Armin Ebersberger, one of the two managing directors of "Dorfleben Walchensee", reports, the school end times are being changed in consultation with the parents: the third and fourth graders are now off at 12.30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and have a long Thursday until 4.30 p.m., so that the total number of hours required for state recognition is met. In order to organize the afternoon well for the elementary school students, sports and WTG (“handicrafts and textile design”) are taught.

The problem with bus travel times mainly affected the children from the Kochel-Bichl area. This RVO bus now always stops on the hour in Walchensee. For the students from the Krün-Wallgau area, the departure times have even improved with the new RVO plan. 65 girls and boys from Walchensee and the neighboring regions are currently attending this school and kindergarten. The facility needs children "from outside" because the offspring from Walchensee alone would not be enough for the company.

The reorganization of lesson times may seem uncomplicated to outsiders. Internally, however, it has required quite a bit of effort and affects all children, parents, teachers and employees. One challenge is that all kindergarten and school children now have to eat lunch at the same time. In addition, the offers for afternoon care, music lessons and workshops have to be rescheduled. "The new organization is a work of art," says Ebersberger.

In the past few weeks there have been many discussions with the parents.

One of those affected is the Schneiderling family from Bichl, whose daughter is in fourth grade.

“The small, family school in Walchensee is a gem for us and other parents.

That's why we want to leave the children there," says Marianne Schneiderling.

Due to the new RVO driving times, her daughter would have come home almost two hours later than usual.

"It's a very long time for elementary school students," she says.

"There's homework and studying in the afternoon."

Feedback meeting scheduled for summer

The third and fourth graders would now have to come to terms with the "long Thursday". It is not as easy as I said, after all there are also children who are active in clubs at this time. “It is important for children to have a balance. You shouldn't forget that," says Schneiderling. At the end of the school year, Ebersberger would like to talk to those affected again about their experiences. What disappointed him is the fact that, despite assurances that a good solution would be found, neither the RVO nor the authorities involved had come up with an idea. At least the school fees will not be increased, and the third and fourth graders now get school lunches for free on Thursdays. "It's a nice gesture from the school, which we parents appreciate," says Schneiderling.
