"Elphis" storm on the way: Expect snow in Jerusalem, fear of floods on the coastal plain Israel today

The rain and sleet that returned to our area today (Sunday) are just preparation for the snow and the expected winter atmosphere this week.

The recent winter weather waves that have hit the country are expected to continue and even reach their peak on Wednesday, with particularly cold air penetrating from Russia directly into our region that will cause stormy weather and snow in the mountains. 

Meanwhile, the weather system has been given the Cypriot name "Elpis" - Elpis from the list of weather events.

This morning it started to rain in the north and during the afternoon it spread to the center and will continue into the afternoon as well.

Tomorrow it will rain intermittently, mainly in the north and center of the country, it will be colder than usual and in the morning there may be light snow in the north of the Golan Heights.

The winds will weaken.

At noon the rains will diminish and gradually cease.

At night it may have happened inland and in the mountains.

As for the third, a temporary respite from the rains is expected, and there will be a slight increase in temperatures.

The change in trend will take place on Wednesday, when it will be rainy and stormy: in the north and center of the country, heavy rains fell, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.

There are fears of floods in the coastal plain, in the lowlands and in the streams.

In the Negev there will be your father and there may be sandstorms.

From noon the rain will also spread to the Negev and there is a risk of flooding.

It will snow on Mount Hermon and in the northern Golan Heights.

In the afternoon, particularly cold air will penetrate the country and snow will begin to fall in the Galilee mountains. In the evening, snow is also expected to spread to the central mountains above 700 meters, including Jerusalem. According to the Meteorological Service, M and even more, however already in the second half of the night the snow will weaken and gradually become heavily rainy in most places.

Nahum Malik, a Meteo Tech forecaster, said that on Thursday the rains will weaken a little but will continue to fall from the north of the country to the Negev.

In the morning it may still snow on the peaks of the northern and central mountains.

There are still fears of floods and flooding.

The "Mount Gilo Meteorological Observatory - the center of snow warnings and atmospheric extreme events" announced that during the morning hours of Wednesday, temperatures are expected to fall in all levels of the troposphere above Israel.

At the same time, an increase in the strength of the southwest / western winds is expected for gusts of up to 70 km / h. Rain will begin to fall in the central mountains in the late morning and during the afternoon it is expected to change to hail and possibly even snow.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Water Authority today, the level of the Sea of ​​Galilee rose by an additional 2 cm over the weekend, to 210,585, only 1,785 meters to the upper red line, 2,415 meters higher than the lower red line.
