Brussels-Sana

Today, the Belgian police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators who gathered in opposition to the restrictions imposed and the mandatory vaccination imposed by the authorities to confront the spread of the Corona virus and the Omicron mutant.

Reuters reported that about 50,000 people demonstrated near the headquarters of the European Commission in the capital, Brussels, rejecting government decisions banning the entry of unvaccinated people to restaurants, bars and cinemas. The protests later turned violent, as police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.

Some protesters set off fireworks as the police forcefully advanced to the park where large groups of demonstrators were gathering and threatened and kicked journalists present during the demonstration and damaged their video equipment, while the European Diplomatic Corps building was stormed.

Belgium is facing a fifth wave of Corona injuries, as about 89 percent of adults have been fully vaccinated, and 67 percent have so far received a booster dose, while the total recorded infections in the country reached two million and 697 thousand and 239 injuries, while the deaths amounted to 28,780 cases.
