2022-01-23T11:08:31.570Z

An Ifop survey for the JDD shows that this is “the largest drop” observed since March 2021. It is the end of a strong stability. For almost a year, Emmanuel Macron's popularity rating had not changed significantly. But an Ifop poll carried out for the JDD today comes to break this: according to the latest edition published this Sunday, 60% of French people say they are "dissatisfied" with the action of the Head of State, while 37% consider themselves "satisfied". It is the end of a strong stability.

For almost a year, Emmanuel Macron's popularity rating had not changed significantly.

But an Ifop poll carried out for the

JDD

today comes to break this: according to the latest edition published this Sunday, 60% of French people say they are "dissatisfied" with the action of the Head of State, while 37% consider themselves "satisfied".

These are 4 points lost in the month of January alone.

"

It's a turning point

," commented the director general of Ifop, Frédéric Dabi, to the

JDD

.

This is the largest drop observed since

” March 2021, he specifies, indicating that the tenant of the Élysée took advantage of a “

certain benevolence with regard to the management of the Covid

”.

A “loss of coherence” in the management of the crisis

This decline can be seen particularly among manual workers (-11 points), the youngest (-7) and the over 65s (-3 to 4 points).

Emmanuel Macron's popularity, on the other hand, is eroding much less with his supporters: 41% of François Fillon's voters in 2017 still support him, as do 79% of his voters - a still solid base.

Unsurprisingly, the voters of La France insoumise and the National Rally are those who have changed their minds the most about his action at the head of the country - 6 points back for these two groups.

In detail,

Le JDD

and Frédéric Dabi put forward several factors to explain this beginning of disenchantment: the "

loss of consistency

" with regard to the vaccination strategy, while the vaccination pass must come into force on Monday, as well as the sentence of the president, aiming to "

annoy the unvaccinated

" and deemed "

disrespectful

".

Finally, purchasing power, which is regularly among the main concerns of the French, also plays a role: sometimes in financial difficulties, the French have more the impression that Emmanuel Macron is not aware of their daily life.
