There were 140 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hong Kong today, the highest in a single day in a year and a half.
Among them, 125 were local cases, mainly involving Kwai Chung Village.
Today, there are four cases of unknown origin, the fifth wave with the largest single-day number. One of the unknown cases is an elevator maintenance worker with L452R virus, which is suspected to be related to the Delta variant virus strain. In addition, the three confirmed cases are related to the confirmed cases in Buddhist Fok Memorial Secondary School; one case is a family member of the seven cases in Ying Wan Garden; two are family members of a case in Li Cheng Uk Village.

Among the four new cases of unknown origin today, an 18-year-old student of Delia Memorial School (Geely Path) lives in Fu Keung House, Tai Wo Hau Estate; a 6-year-old child lives in Tung Chung Blue Sky Coast.

Elevator maintenance personnel live in Ma On Shan Xingang City Center
A confirmed case is a 44-year-old Mitsubishi elevator maintenance male worker who lives in the center of Xingang City, Ma'anshan, with L452R virus, suspected of being a Delta variant virus.
Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, pointed out that the maintenance worker had visited the existing Chong Shan lobby in Wong Tai Sin to connect to the elevator, and then worked in Residences 1 and 2 and shopping malls in San Po Kong Plaza.
