Knesset Speaker MK Miki Levy is expected to land in Berlin early Monday morning for a state visit until Thursday evening.

During the week, the Speaker of the Knesset is scheduled to visit Villa Vanessa and meet with Bundestag President Barbel Bass, Austrian National Council President Wolfgang Subotka, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Foreign Minister Annelna Barbock.

The highlight of the visit will be on Thursday, when the Speaker of the Knesset will speak for the first time in history to the Bundestag plenum (in Hebrew), during the state ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day together with the symbols of German rule.

Prior to his departure for Berlin, Knesset Speaker MK Miki Levy said: , Have not yet committed the crime of the most horrific war in the history of mankind - the Holocaust.

I will stand proud to be a Jew, with six million silent souls by my side and I will speak in Hebrew, the sacred language of our people. "

The Speaker of the Knesset added: "This visit symbolizes the friendships of truth that have been created between Israel and Germany.

"A full value partnership between liberal democracies that share a mutual commitment to remember the Holocaust, to protect the sanctity of the murdered, and to fight anti-Semitism in all its forms throughout the world."

In January 2020, the President of the State, Ruby Rivlin, spoke in Hebrew in the German parliament to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp. In his speech, Rivlin referred, among other things, to the change that Germany has undergone over the years: "Over the years, out of a deep confrontation with the destruction inflicted on Nazi Germany, on the Jewish people, on Europe, on all humanity, Germany grew as the leader of the new Europe and the Union." , Said Rivlin. "The same country that was the terror of the free world, has become a beacon of democracy and liberalism, responsibility and moderation."

In March 2017, the Knesset-Bundestag inter-parliamentary meeting took place at the Knesset.

After a four-way meeting, Knesset Speaker Yoel Edelstein and German Bundestag President Prof. Norbert Lamert opened the conference, during which Edelstein presented his colleague to Amart with the Knesset key.

The Knesset key is rarely given to people we are particularly interested in honoring, "said Edelstein, the chairman at the time.

Prof. Lamert replied excitedly.

"I can not think of a more symbolic and impressive gift," he said.

In December 2015, the then Speaker of the Knesset, MK Yoel Edelstein, delivered a speech in Hebrew at the Bundestag, emphasizing, among other things, the warm connection between Jerusalem and Berlin.
