An officer was killed in a mortar attack on a French military camp in the financial city of Gao.
And the French presidency announced in a statement carried by Agence France-Presse today that Brigadier Alexander Martin of the 54th Artillery Regiment was killed in the bombing of a camp for Barkhane forces in Gao, northern Mali.
The Barkhane force, set up by France under the pretext of fighting terrorism, has been in Mali since 2014 and its mission extends to the entire Sahel region of Niger and Burkina Faso.
Last Tuesday, four French soldiers were wounded in Burkina Faso when an explosive device exploded as their vehicle passed, while the total number of dead French forces since the start of the mission reached 53 soldiers.
