The Gymnasium Markt Indersdorf (GMI) can set up a music branch for the 2022/23 school year.

Approval from the Bavarian Ministry of Education was given this week.

The musical orientation starts in the 2022/23 school year with grade five and will be continued year after year.

Registration takes place from Monday, May 9th to Wednesday, May 11th. Instrumental knowledge is not a prerequisite for admission, but the students must be able to show good or very good performance in the subject music in the transfer certificate. Pupils from all over the district and even beyond can register to enable all children to have a musical education. The connection to a specific high school does not apply to the music class. The same applies to free travel to school. Pupils who actually belong to the catchment area of the future Röhrmoos grammar school but choose the arts branch can remain at the GMI until the end of their school days.

District Administrator Stefan Löwl was pleased with the decision. "With the music branch at the GMI, the range of secondary school education in the district has been expanded by an important building block. That means another upgrade of the Dachau educational region and is a great success.” In the summer, the school and district – unanimously supported by the school and district committee – submitted an application for the affiliation of a musical branch. Headmaster Thomas Höhenleitner: “The pupils of the musical high school can learn an instrument over a period of nine years without their parents having to pay for the instrumental lessons or having to purchase an instrument themselves. This is not only a great opportunity for comprehensive musical support and holistic personality development, but it is also a great offer for families, for whom private music lessons are difficult or even impossible to afford.”

In addition to the conventional lessons in the individual subjects, the pupils in the music education receive one hour of lessons per week on an instrument of their choice.

The lessons are given by music teachers from the school or trained instrument teachers.

Pupils who already have lessons with their own music teacher can continue these there privately, but they regularly take practical exams at the school.

At the GMI there will also be choir training in grades five and six.

Pupils in the arts major learn English as their first foreign language and Latin as their second foreign language.

Höhenleitner announces that there will be separate information for interested parents and students in spring 2022.

Up-to-date information on the music education direction will soon be available on the school's website
