On Wednesday, January 5, in the afternoon, a French businessman in Almaty, the economic capital of Kazakhstan, noticed, without paying much attention to it, a group of four to five men, some with truncheons, loading equipment - a protective shield - in the trunk of a car.
“Obviously not downtown guys
,” notes the witness.
Other groups, very mobile and visibly coordinated, will also be spotted.
Witnesses claim to have seen weapons carried in ambulances.
The evening before, January 4, some 30,000 demonstrators marched to demand the resignation of the government and the departure of Nursultan Nazarbayev, head of state for thirty years until 2019 and remained very influential.
If there are no clashes at the beginning, the tension mounts quickly.
And from this January 5, everything changes.
The town hall of Almaty is set on fire, the airport, television, official residences are ransacked and shops looted.
