Iran's oil minister has urged people to wrap up warm to reduce gas consumption which peaked on Saturday, Shana, the ministry's official agency, reported on Sunday.

In the past 24 hours, gas consumption has reached an all-time high of 692 million m3, in the domestic, commercial and light industry sectors,
” said Minister Javad Owji.
“
We therefore ask people to reduce consumption by wearing warm clothes and turning off heaters when leaving home and office
,” he added.

Although, thanks to God and the efforts of the employees of the oil industry, the gas network is stable, it is the only way to be able to pass the next ten days without any problem
," he said.
A previous record for gas consumption with 748 million m3 was reached on November 22, 2021.

Iran has the world's second largest gas reserves, after Russia, and the world's fourth largest oil reserves.
Gas is almost free in Iran because it is heavily subsidized.
Thursday, the Iranian Meteorological Organization warned the population against the persistent cold in several cities of the country including Tehran.
