The first show of the new season "I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!" flickered across the screens.

Compared to before, fewer viewers tuned in.

Cologne – the wait is over – the first episode of the new season “Jungle Camp” is over.

Some things are new, but many things are “typical of the jungle” from the very first moment, like all the years before.

As always, there were surprises with the stars' luxury items, the first gossip and bitching have already escaped various lips, and the first disgust test has been passed.

With the cult show, a real highlight is returning to the RTL program after a year's break due to the corona virus.

However, the broadcaster does not manage to stop the downward trend in ratings.

A new country and particularly weird celebrities don't help either: the numbers are skyrocketing.

Jungle camp 2022: Low ratings at the start

The first broadcast started at 9:30 p.m., and after only 20 minutes the first excitement for the viewers was already felt.

Despite the slight time difference, the opening show ran until well after midnight.

Compared to previous years, the ratings for the RTL cult show continue to fall every year.

About 4.58 million people in Germany switched on the television for the jungle fun for the first broadcast.

The market share among 14 to 49 year olds was 35 percent on Friday evening (January 21).

Although the station itself speaks of a "successful" start on Twitter, a comparison with previous years shows something different.

Jungle camp ratings in recent years

The first season of "I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!" aired in 2004 - today, 18 years later, the 15th season is a real anniversary season.

Still, interest seems to have waned over the years.

Here is a list of the ratings for the opening shows since 2013 (sources:

dwdl.de

and

quotenmeter.de

):

  • 2013

    : 7.77 million, 39.8% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2014

    : 7.66 million, 40.4% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2015

    : 7.5 million, 41.9% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2016

    : 7.68 million, 42.3% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2017

    : 7.36 million, 41.8% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2018

    : 6.49 million, 39.1% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2019

    : 5.95 million, 38.7% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2020

    : 6.01 million, 36.3% market share (14-49 y.)

  • 2022

    : 4.58 million, 35% market share (14-49 y.)

The new episode thus shares the worst ratings for a jungle camp opening episode with the 2008 edition (about 4.59 million).

The fact that RTL is glossing over this is at least a little understandable – 4.58 million still means a decent quota.

But also more than three million viewers less than about 2016. For the first two seasons there were only average ratings over the entire two weeks in 2004 (2004 part 1: about 6.47 million, 2004 part 2: 5.5 million ).

While in 2013 Olivia Jones and Joey Heindle still watched 7.77 million viewers and the market share among 14 to 49 year olds was 39.8 percent, in 2018 it dropped by more than 1.2 million viewers (6, 49 million).

Still significantly more than this year with 4.58 million.

In around nine years, RTL has lost around three million viewers on the opening show.
