New rules for the health pass, vaccination pass... What changes for your travels

2022-01-23T17:20:47.305Z

A simple negative test will no longer allow you to take the train or the plane in France from January 24, the date of entry into force of the vaccination pass. In Europe, the rules will change from February 1.

For trips to France

Since January 15, French people over the age of 18 who have not received a vaccine booster seven months after their last injection (two doses) or Covid-19 infection have had their health pass deactivated. Between 500,000 and 700,000 people would be affected, according to the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran. From February 15, this period will be reduced to four months. This will complicate travel in France... It is no longer possible to take a long-distance train, take a domestic flight, visit a museum, go to a bar or a restaurant. The site monrappelvaccincovid.ameli.fr, set up by Health Insurance, allows you to know the expiry date of your health pass if you do not make the reminder.

Note: when you receive a booster dose, you have to wait seven days before the new QR code is activated.

What to do if you have been infected with Covid-19 after your vaccination?

People who have tested positive for Covid-19 before they were able to receive their booster dose can use their certificate of recovery

[i.e. their positive test, editor’s note]

so that their ‘sanitary pass’ remains valid pending their recall.

It is nevertheless recommended to do your booster from three months after your infection

The bill establishing the “vaccination pass”, adopted by the National Assembly on January 16, will come into force on Monday January 24.

This device, which replaces the health pass, will not change the travel conditions of people vaccinated or immunized after an infection.

For the non-vaccinated, on the other hand, the negative test will no longer be accepted anywhere or almost.

The proof of vaccination and the recovery certificate will be the only two documents allowing access to most public places (interregional transport, restaurants, museums, etc.).

It will concern all French people aged 16 and over (those aged 12 to 15 remaining subject to the health pass and who can, therefore, be satisfied with a pass).

For trips abroad

While the rules change at national level, they remain independent of those governing travel in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

In the European Union, from February 1, the validity of the vaccination certificate will be limited to 270 days (nine months) after a complete vaccination schedule.

A deadline already applied by Italy and Austria, for example.

The European Commission specifies that this is a maximum duration: some States may decide to reduce it further, like France, therefore, from February 15 (four months instead of nine).

Some people, especially those who were vaccinated between seven and nine months ago, could still claim their vaccination certificate for their trips to the EU... but not to France.

Outside the European Union, the period of validity of the vaccination certificate (but also of the recovery certificate) depends on each country.

To enter Israel, for example, it is necessary that the last dose was administered less than 180 days (six months) before entering the territory.

It is important to check the rules in force in each country by consulting our map or the France Diplomatie website.
