A fire in Xinxing Garden in Tai Po resulted in the death of a mother and son. The unit involved in the accident was about 800 square feet, with two bedrooms, one for each mother and son. Among them, the room of the son surnamed Wu (31) was the most severely damaged, with the window frame peeling off. Wu Xian was caught in a sea of flames and had no way to escape. He jumped out of the window and died. When he was rescued, his 62-year-old mother was unconscious, with blackened face and burns on his left hand. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire chief of the Fire Department, Huang Zhijun, said that the male deceased fell from his room and lay on the platform. The ambulance personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed that he was obviously dead. It was found that the hospitalization was ineffective, and her left hand suffered second-degree burns and her face was blackened.
Senior Inspector Cai Qingfeng of the Police Force explained that because the window frame of the room was shattered, it was quite unusual, and personnel from the Explosives Disposal Division were called to assist in the investigation. No accelerant was found at the scene.
During the fire, the fire department dispatched 76 firefighters and ambulancemen, 12 fire trucks, 3 ambulances and a rapid response ambulance, 250 residents evacuated by themselves, and firefighters assisted 30 residents to leave.
The fire was quite violent, and the fire spread to several floors of units.
