Kraillinger shopkeepers have suffered greatly from the conversion of Margaretenstrasse and the construction sites.

At times, their shops were hard to reach.

We asked around what they think of the new town centre.

Krailling

– Traffic has been rolling on Margaretenstraße again for almost two months.

Krailling's new town center has taken shape: new paving, parking lots, benches and greenery.

Due to the wintry weather, the renovation, which cost 4.5 million euros, is not yet really shining - but the business people are happy that the construction site has finally come to an end after a year and a half.

"It's better now.

We actually all suffered from the construction site," says Seyda Karapinar from Feinkost Sari.

Your customers had to park relatively far away to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.

Some of her regular customers didn't come for a while.

Now they are back, according to Seyda Karapinar.

"Lots of dirt and fewer customers"

However, the Sari managing director thinks the conversion of the street was a success - in particular the accessibility created by lowering the sidewalk and the increase in parking spaces. Martina Brachem, Managing Director of Juwelier Sanftl, is also happy about this. "But the construction site brought a lot of dirt and fewer customers." Many would have complained. Especially people who are not good on foot found it difficult to climb over the boards. However, the decline in customers is not only due to the construction site, but also to the pandemic, Brachem knows: "We were also closed for weeks." The jeweler is dissatisfied with the security protection in front of her shop door. "I had wished that the municipality had provided a kind of entry stop in the form of a bench or bicycle stand. There have been repeated break-ins by ramming the front door with a car. However, Martina Brachem doubts whether the wooden beams currently attached diagonally in front of the door will bring the desired success.

Hairstylist Shanga Rustam from Salon de Beauté reports that most of her clients are happy with the new town centre.

She also didn't see a serious drop in customer flow.

Except when the construction site was right in front of her door.

It was then difficult for her older customers to get to the salon.

Only partially satisfied with the parking situation

The newly designed parking lot situation has so far only appealed to hearing aid acoustician Teresa Kempter from Mierau Hörsysteme to a limited extent: "Here in front of our shop you have to park parallel to the street.

However, since vertical parking is allowed a few meters away, some are unsure of what applies where.” Some simply parked their cars in front of the shop.

Kempter thinks that is due to the markings, which are a bit difficult to see due to the winter grit that is currently piled up.

"It will definitely be different in the summer." It's just a change for everyone.

"Everything else seems much freer, more uniform and more modern with this continuous paving," praises Teresa Kempter.
