Lt. Col. Mani Ivri has been appointed commander of the Nahal Brigade. - Only a week after another shooting incident - in the Walnut unit: "This is delusional" • IDF Spokesman: "This is a valued officer. The decision was made after examining his professional and commanding abilities "

As part of a series of appointments in the IDF, it was announced last week that Lt. Gen. Mani Ivri will be appointed commander of the Nahal Brigade's divisional training base.

But the timing of the appointment sparked outrage, as he was reprimanded as part of an investigation into the death of Sgt.

Ivri serves as commander of the 50th Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, where a training accident occurred in which Yonatan Granot was killed. Last February, Granot was accidentally shot by another soldier in the Tevetz camp in the Jordan Valley. Towards Granot and fatally wounded him.The doctors fought for Granot's life but he eventually died as a result of his wounds.

Last November, the investigation of the incident was placed on the desk of Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, in which it was clarified that the unit has a poor command culture and weapons delinquency. The direct cause of the incident, it was determined, was The unit and the commanders at the event. The company commander, who was released, was disciplinary prosecuted, reprimanded and removed from command positions permanently. The platoon commander at the time of the incident and four fighters who were in the company compound where the weapons were placed and did not stop the incident were also removed from combat and command positions. An indictment was filed against the fighter who shot in Granot for the offense of manslaughter, and this trial is still going on today.

The announcement of Ivri's promotion has caused outrage among those involved in the affair. Admittedly, he was not directly involved in the tragic incident, but sources say it is not possible that while the trial is still ongoing, and a week after another tragic shooting incident occurred in the Walnut unit, an officer who was reprimanded in a serious incident was promoted. "He is promoted a week after the disaster in Walnut, and the child is on trial? Half a year has not yet passed and the trial is not over yet. How does he receive Bach Nahal? This is the SAG syndrome. This is delusional, "a source dealing with the affair told" Israel Today. " Is it possible to move on to the agenda on the deaths of people? "

The source stated that this is not the first problematic event in which Hebrew is involved. The officer was the deputy commander of the Cherry unit in 2018 when Sgt. Shachar Strugg was shot as a result of playing with a friend in the room.

The IDF spokesman responded:

"The unfortunate incident in which the late Sgt. Yonatan Granot was killed will be examined by a committee of experts whose conclusions have been examined and approved by the chief of staff.

Following the committee's findings, the officer was reprimanded for his overall command responsibility for what was happening in the unit.

The officer in question is a respected officer, who has performed a wide range of command roles at the core of the IDF's operational work with great dedication and professionalism in the opinion of his commanders.

The decision to appoint the officer to the position was made after examining his professional and commanding abilities and while weighing the conclusions of the expert committee and the commanding step taken in the officer's case.

The appointment was approved by the commander of the Land Arm and will be brought to the Chief of Staff's approval.
