After two years of the corona pandemic, the companies in the district have gained a lot of experience with working from home.

Most of them advocate mobile working - if the task allows it

District

- home office - some are enthusiastic about the "new freedom that needs to be preserved", as Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) puts it.

The others just want to go back to the office.

The federal government is planning to make home office the standard option, even after the pandemic: employees should even have a legal right to it in the future if there are no operational reasons against it.

Employers' associations, on the other hand, have already lodged an objection.

We asked large employers in the district how they felt about this topic.

So much in advance: Everyone has had positive experiences, everyone would like to keep the home office option, but only where it is not at the expense of colleagues who work internally.

dr Stefan Kreisz, Managing Director Technology, Logistics, Human Resources and Purchasing at the private brewery Erdinger Weißbräu, says: “You always have to see the topic of home office and Co. in the context of the industry and the tasks of the employees. Beer is still difficult to brew in the home office. But of course we have enough other workplaces where mobile working can be implemented.”

Especially with regard to measures to protect employees during the pandemic, the global company has dealt intensively with this topic and found a solution. "Our company agreement on mobile working clearly regulates how employees and supervisors can implement home working." In this respect, there is no need for any further specifications from the government, says Kreisz, but promises: "Should the legislator issue new specifications, we will of course check to what extent these correspond to our current approach.”

Even before the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, employees at Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) were able to work from home for a few days, press spokesman Ingo Anspach said on request. "Following a pilot phase, a corresponding company agreement on the so-called flexible working world came into force at FMG at the beginning of 2018, in which the modalities of mobile working were regulated," he explains. Against the background of the pandemic, this regulation was supplemented in March 2020 so that employees can work up to 100 percent of their working hours in the home office, provided that operational issues do not conflict with this. According to the spokesman, this will initially apply until mid-2022.

Anspach assumes that FMG employees will still have the opportunity to work remotely after the corona pandemic has been overcome, because working from home has proven its worth at FMG: "As an employer, FMG attaches great importance to the compatibility of work and family and is fundamentally open to working models that increase flexibility.”

Furniture manufacturer Himolla in Taufkirchen would also like to offer its employees the opportunity to work from home after the pandemic - "wherever it fits into the work areas, that's not a problem for us," states Managing Director Ralph Bestgen.

But it should only be an offer, not an obligation, because he has found that it depends very much on the individual employees: “Not everyone wants that, many were happy to come back to the office after the first lockdown.”

The Employment Agency, which employs 30 people in Erding, has been familiar with working from home since 2005. "Back then, the infrastructure for mobile workplaces was created with the intention of better reconciling family and work," explains Christine Schöps, press spokeswoman for the Erding-Freising area. During the pandemic, the number of employees using this option increased tenfold, so that around 70 percent are currently working from home, says Schöps.

But the agency spokeswoman also advises: “Working from home shouldn’t be mandatory.” What is a blessing for one person could become a curse for another.

"It's very individual.

You can't lump it all together, depending on the area of work and personal situation.” For Schöps there is no silver bullet, she finds a mixed form ideal.

"There is no substitute for personal contact with colleagues and customers."
