Update from January 24, 9.33 a.m .:

A prioritization of the PCR tests, new vaccine regulations and an "opening perspective" for events? All of these topics are on the agenda at today's Corona summit between the federal and state governments. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had announced that he would not support any tightening in Bavaria. Instead, he wants more freedom in some areas (see first report) - even though some experts warn against it.

The chief physician Clemens Wendtner of the infectiology at the Schwabing Clinic believes that restrictions are still necessary if the number of infections is high.

In addition, he advocates maintaining the regulation on regional lockdowns from a seven-day incidence of 1000. The regulation has currently been suspended by the state government.

This will be decided again at tomorrow's cabinet meeting.

Munich virologist warns of Omikron - "Anything but 'mild'"

The virologist Keppler, from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, also sees the planned easing in the Free State as a “dangerous path”. He considers it "highly dangerous" to classify Omikron as mild. In America, one would see what Omikron would do, according to Keppler, who is also the head of the Max von Pettenkofer Institute. “In the USA we are seeing a monstrous incidence of infection with up to a million new cases of infection every day. There are more Covid 19 patients in the hospitals there than ever before during the pandemic, and the number of deaths has also increased significantly in recent weeks. Now that's anything but 'mild'.” He also points out that possible long-term effects of omicron have not yet been sufficiently investigated.

First report January 23, 7.45 p.m .:

Munich – The Corona* summit on Monday (January 24) is intended to clarify some areas with regard to the Omicron variant.

A first draft resolution* gives indications of what changes could come.

A prioritization of the PCR tests and uniform rules for vaccination are on the plan.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) made a clear statement shortly before the summit about the next steps for the Free State.

"Bavaria will not support any tightening in the prime ministers' conference," Söder told the

Augsburger Allgemeine

on Sunday .

Instead, he wants to relax the rules in some places.

Before the Corona summit: Söder announces easing for Bavaria

Omikron is not Delta, so the measures cannot be adopted one-to-one, Söder told the newspaper.

“We want to enable more participation again in culture, sport and youth work.” Already on Tuesday (January 18) after the cabinet meeting, Söder’s ministers announced that certain relaxations in these areas would be decided next week.

For art and culture, an adjustment of the capacity limitation from the previous 25 percent to 50 percent is conceivable in the event of a relaxation.

An adjustment would also be possible for sport.

How exactly this can look like is not yet entirely clear.

In youth work, they want to introduce a 3G rule instead of the current 2G rule.

Söder shoots against the traffic light government shortly before MPK - "The whole country is waiting"

With regard to the obligation to vaccinate, Söder became clear again before the MPK.

"It would have been better from the start to introduce general vaccination for everyone instead of just for individual groups," he said in an interview with the

Augsburger Allgemeine

.

He warns of the loss of numerous nurses.

The federal government should therefore again “check a uniform date for everyone”.

The whole country is waiting for a proposal from the federal government on how to imagine general vaccination.

You have no more time to lose.

The subject of tomorrow's MPK, however, will not be vaccination.

On Wednesday (January 26), a general obligation to vaccinate against corona will be debated in the Bundestag for the first time.
