Exclusive: Following the publication in "Israel Today" that Palestinians have damaged the Sebastia Antiquities Site in Samaria, the Jerusalem and Heritage Ministry, headed by Minister Zeev Elkin, will allocate about NIS 10 million for the preservation, restoration and rescue of heritage sites throughout Judea and Samaria.

Recently, dozens of heritage, antiquities and archeology sites in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley have been suffering from continuous destruction by the Palestinian Authority and robbery of antiquities by PA residents.

As part of the war on the phenomenon, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage will transfer NIS 5 million to rehabilitation work at the Tel Shomron (Sebastia) site, after approval by the Civil Administration, NIS 2.5 million will be transferred to rehabilitate additional sites in Judea and Samaria. Archeology in Judea and Samaria.

At the same time, an additional NIS 1.5 million will be transferred during 2022 for restoration work at the Hasmonean Palaces site near Jericho, after some of it was vandalized by Arab residents of the area, and NIS 1 million will be allocated for a survey in the Judean Desert to locate and recognize additional archeological sites.

In addition to these, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage has funded a unique conservation team recently established at the Nature and Parks Authority, to locate and rehabilitate heritage sites that have been damaged by deliberate destruction in recent years.

Minister Elkin told Israel Today that "the destruction of antiquities in Judea and Samaria, under the auspices of the PA, is destroying the history of the entire region, and I will make every effort to fight it. Preserving the heritage sites in Judea and Samaria is a national mission."

In parallel with the actions and budgets that have been transferred, the Knesset's Education, Culture and Sports Committee will today hold an urgent discussion on the destruction of antiquities and heritage sites in Judea and Samaria, in order to put an end to the phenomenon.
