The interest group "Gymnasium Poing NOW" handed over the petition for the high school to District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß.

She calls for the school to start this year.

Poing - The interest group (IG) "Gymnasium Poing JETZT" has closed the online petition it started in October 2021 and handed over the signatures to District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß. According to the initiators Veronika Neu, Martina Pillath and Andrea Lacour, the petition received 1,810 votes – for the demand for the grammar school to be built quickly. "More than 1800 votes are an overwhelming vote by the citizens," said Neu, Pillath and Lacour in a press release published by the IG on Monday. "We were particularly pleased about the broad support of the Poing municipal council and the unanimously adopted resolution for the realization of the grammar school in Poing."

Thanks to this tailwind, the IG will “stay on the topic with a lot of commitment” and will work together to ensure “that, if possible, preliminary classes can be started as early as September 2022, ideally with a branch office in Poing,” write the initiators.

Poing: IG publishes press release

District administrator Robert Niedergesäß is quoted as follows in the press release: “The Poing high school will come and become a very important piece of the mosaic in our educational landscape.

The district council stands behind this central educational project with conviction.” Unfortunately, the financially tense situation in the district pushed the project back a bit.

Niedergesäß: "But the district council has decided that we will start with the preliminary planning in 2022, and we will now tackle this with commitment." The district administrator, the press release goes on to say, welcomes the think tank proposed by the IG and will take part in the kick-off - Attend event.

Think tank to develop suggestions

When the petition was handed over, Veronika Neu, Martina Pillath and Andrea Lacour explained their idea of a working group in the form of a think tank to the district administrator.

In this, various options for the fastest possible implementation of the grammar school (e.g. via preliminary classes) should be specified and then the ideas and results should be presented to the district council or its committees.

Decision between vocational school and high school

At the end of October 2021, the district council decided to leave the construction of a new high school in Poing on the waiting list for the 2022 district budget for financial reasons.

For preparatory measures such as preliminary planning and feasibility studies, however, the district council has approved up to 1.35 million euros from budget remnants for this year.

A few days ago, Robert Niedergesäß said that the district council should decide before the summer break this year whether the Grafing-Bahnhof vocational school or the high school in Poing should be built first.

“Master plan for schools” has been on hold for five years

As a reminder: In autumn 2017, the Ebersberg district council responsible for secondary schools drew up the "Schools Master Plan", which included the construction of a new vocational school center in Grafing and a high school in Poing.

The latter should have gone into operation in the 2024/25 school year, but the project was put on the waiting list for financial reasons.

The Bavarian Ministry of Culture granted the necessary state approval for the realization in 2018.

According to an estimate by district administrator Robert Niedergesäß, the new high school in Poing will cost around 100 million euros.

The site for the school is already available: in the Lerchenwinkel development area.

As the IG "Gymnasium Poing NOW" reports, the burden on high schools throughout Bavaria will increase due to the switch from G8 to G9 - and in Poing also due to further influx as a result of the new development areas.

There are three elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school and a special education center in the community.

In its press release, IG mentions estimates by the municipality of Poing, according to which around 830 high school students commute to the surrounding area.
