The air forces of Russia and Syria held a joint aerial exercise near the southern border of the country this morning (Monday), Russian media reported based on information released by the Russian Air Force.
According to the report and videos released from the exercise, the maneuver included fighter jets of the Sukhoi-35 and Sukhoi-34 of the Russian Air Force as well as a Russian reconnaissance aircraft of the I-10 model. On the Syrian side, MiG-23 and MiG-29s participated.
The planes took off from the warm Russian air force base near the city of Latakia and flew along the southern border of the country, including the Golan.
The patrol continued from there north to the Euphrates River.
This is an exceptional tour of the two air forces and one of the first times such a tour took place on the Israeli Golan border.
The high exposure given by the Russian Air Force to the incident implies that it is a message from Russia that it is behind the Syrian regime.
Last week, his force was bombarded with Russian maneuvers and a patrol along with the Syrian army along the southern border.
Foreign media have repeatedly claimed in the past year that Israel is behind the attacks on the regime's targets and pro-Iranian militias in its territory.
