The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced its intention to put reserve forces on alert and send ships and fighters under the pretext of strengthening its defenses in Eastern Europe.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement today, "NATO will continue to take all necessary measures to protect and defend all members, in particular by strengthening the countries of the Eastern Alliance, and we will always respond to any deterioration in our security environment, including by strengthening our collective defense." .
The alliance referred to the decisions taken by Denmark in recent days to send a frigate and warplanes to the Baltic countries, to support Spain in its naval deployment, and to prepare the Netherlands for ships and land units on alert for the rapid reaction force.
The statement presented France's intention to send troops to Romania, noting that the United States had also made it clear that it was considering increasing its military presence.
In turn, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich said in his Twitter account, "We have reached the stage where the continued Russian and Belarusian military build-up in Europe needs to be addressed with appropriate NATO countermeasures."
"It is time to increase the presence of Allied forces in the eastern flank of the coalition as defense and deterrence measures," he added.
NATO continues to mobilize its military forces and conduct maneuvers along the border with Russia, while ignoring Russian calls for an agreement on mutual security guarantees.
The NATO countries also sent huge quantities of modern weapons to Ukraine, which Russia considered a step that encourages the Kiev authorities to choose a military solution to the crisis in Donbass and permanently abandon the Minsk agreements for a solution through dialogue.
Western-backed extremists carried out a coup d'état against the legitimate elected government of Ukraine in 2014 and carried out a series of exclusionary measures, especially against citizens of Russian origin, which prompted the residents of Crimea to organize a referendum and declare independence, while the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions unilaterally declared independence.
Although the two sides of the crisis in Ukraine reached agreements in Minsk under the auspices of the Normandy Group in 2014 and 2015 to resolve the crisis through dialogue and implement a set of reciprocal steps, the Kiev authorities did not abide by them.
