Two signs pointing to the new wildlife sanctuary in the Croda Rossa area and set up on December 1st were damaged and stolen at the end of December.

District – As reported by the district office, one of the two stolen signs was in the Sandbichler Alm area, the other in the Auerspitz summit area.

Both were stolen - and both were a triangular sign "Wildschutzgebiet" and a no-entry sign.

1500 euros property damage

One sign was found in a nearby mountain pine field, the other remains missing.

The posts of the signs were connected to the concrete ground sockets with screws.

Appropriate tools had to be used to remove the signs, according to the press release.

The resulting damage, for which the taxpayer now has to pay, amounts to around 1,500 euros.

"The dismantling of the signs is a setback for all those who are committed to sustainable tourism in harmony with nature," writes the district office.

Rangers, area supervisors, lower nature conservation authorities, district administrators - they are all stunned by the brutality with which efforts to protect nature and species are trampled underfoot.

"It's unbelievable in the truest sense of the word," says nature conservation ranger Alexander Römer, who himself spent hours looking for the missing signs.

His colleague Andreas Koepferl - the two carried the signs up the mountain and concreted them in there - is just as shocked: "They try to take everyone with them and explain why a wildlife sanctuary is needed here, and then something like that."

New signs and more presence planned

The rangers will not be discouraged by the incident: there are new signs, the presence in the area is being intensified with the support of the part-time rangers of the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region.

The district office filed a complaint against unknown persons.
