An attack with a firearm this Monday at the University of Heidelberg (southern Germany) has resulted in several people injured and the attacker dead, according to police sources reported to different information agencies.
The action was carried out by a young man alone, apparently a student of that institution, and it occurred shortly after noon in an auditorium on the city's university campus.
The police have not been able to establish the reasons that moved the young man to use a rifle, with which he injured four companions, one seriously.
The only certainty that the city police have was summed up in a terse Twitter message that reported that “a lone perpetrator injured several people in a conference room with a long gun.
The author himself is dead.
Colleagues are still on the scene with a great deployment.
When the shots rang out, terror invaded the auditorium and the students themselves who were fleeing from the attacker called the police.
When officers arrived at the scene, the attacker fled and, after a brief chase, officers found him dead.
The young man would have committed suicide with a shot.
According to information from the DPA news agency, four people were injured.
One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, according to security sources.
The attacker, according to that agency, was a student and it is already known that the young man had no political or religious motives and that he arrived at the conference room carrying several long weapons, which leads one to think that he had the intention of committing a massacre. .

"We do not believe that there have been other authors," admitted the police, who decided to cordon off the entire area, where they carried out several searches.
The authorities have not released the identity of the author of the attack or that of the injured.
The events occurred on the premises occupied by the university clinic, the Faculty of Sciences and the botanical garden, reports Efe.
The security forces cordoned off the area after receiving notice of the attack, around 12:30 GMT.
They immediately urged the citizens to move away from the place through the police Twitter account.
The direction of the University, for its part, warned the students not to approach the place.
The entire area surrounding the campus of the university clinic, up to the very gates of Heidelberg's old town, has been closed to traffic.
