What is "health inequality"?
According to the definition of the World Health Organization, "health is physical, psychological and social well-being, not just a state of freedom from disease or debilitating disease"; and the disparities in health status caused by different factors affecting different population groups are called "Health Inequality".
Michael Marmot, professor of epidemiology at UCL and co-director of the Institute of Health Equity at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who has been engaged in research on "health inequality" for more than 40 years, proposes a "social gradient" framework based on years of empirical data , that "social status" and "personal health" show a positive relationship, that is, the lower the social status, the worse the health.
In his book "Deadly Inequality: How Social Injustice Threatens Our Health," published in Chinese late last year, he stressed that unless you belong to the top 1 percent, the problem of health inequality is all about you.
