Nearly 45,000 people fled their homes in Hassaké, Syria, after a prison storm last week and intense fighting between jihadists and Kurdish fighters that followed, the UN announced on Monday (January 24th).

"Up to 45,000 people have had to flee their homes" located in the city of Hassaké after the offensive launched Thursday evening by the Islamic State (IS) group against Ghwayran prison, announced Monday the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the UN (OCHA).
