Tragic accident on the Wendelstein: According to the police, a skier found a dead person on Saturday, January 22, on the northern side of the Wendelstein. According to initial findings, this was a 41-year-old man of Czech nationality who lived in the Starnberg district. As the investigations of the Alpine Task Force (AEG) revealed to the police, an accident can be assumed.

The operation took place on Saturday afternoon in the area of the "Zeller Scharte", below the so-called "Hotelhang".

The skier found the lifeless man there around 4 p.m.

When he found that there were no signs of life from the person lying there, he immediately called the emergency services for help.

According to the current status of the investigation, a serious fall may have been the cause of death.

However, more details have to be clarified by an autopsy.

There is no evidence of third-party participation.

The body was recovered under difficult conditions.

At the time of the operation, there was stormy snowfall on the Wendelstein, reports one of the volunteers who was involved.

The ski tourer's tracks had already been erased, and the body had been covered with some snow.

This is one of the reasons why it is not possible to say right away how long ago the accident happened.

After the salvage, the dead man was taken to Brannenburg by cog railway.

The local operation was managed by the specially trained alpine police officers, who were supported by 30 mountain rescue service members from the Brannenburg and Bayrischzell mountain rescue services. "We were in action with the snowmobile and at the same time tried to get to the scene of the accident from the cable car and the cog railway," says the mountain rescuer. The body was taken to the Wendelstein cog railway and from there transported down to the valley by train. Because of the bad weather, a helicopter flight had not been possible. The quick help from the cog railway operator was very fortunate. "They did their utmost," says the mountain guard.

Time and again fatal accidents and medical emergencies occur when skiing in the mountains.

On the Brauneck, a skier recently died on the piste from a sudden emergency.

In the French Alps, a five-year-old girl was killed while taking a ski course.
