The Forum pour l'islam de France (Forif), wanted by the government and which must associate actors from the "

field

" to better represent the Muslim faith, will meet on February 5 in Paris, the Ministry of the Interior indicated to the AFP.

A hundred people - religious leaders, imams, members of civil society, men or women - are expected at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (Cese), added the ministry.

Gérald Darmanin will participate.

The work of this Forif already began a few weeks ago: four working groups have been set up and are exchanging their thoughts.

One deals with “

the organization and operation of chaplaincies

” (military, penitentiary, hospital), another with the “

professionalization and recruitment of imams

”.

The third focuses on the application of the law confirming respect for the principles of the Republic (known as the law against “

separatism

”) passed last summer;

and the last examines “

the security of places of worship and anti-Muslim acts

”.

This Forif, which is inspired by the work carried out by the prefects during the "

departmental meetings

" last spring, must lead to a form of representation of Islam based on the departmental actors and no longer from the supervision of the federations mosques affiliated with countries (Algeria, Morocco, Turkey) that have made up the French Council for Muslim Worship (CFCM) for nearly 20 years.

Historical interlocutor of the public authorities on the Muslim faith, the CFCM, created in 2003, has been deeply divided for several months - particularly in recent days -, with resigning federations and others who oppose its future.

In mid-December, Gérald Darmanin declared this body "

dead

".
