Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal suffered an accident while training with his bicycle on Monday on the Bogotá-Tunja road, confirmed the Ineos team, to which Bernal belongs, through a press release.
In the letter of the road report it is explained that the accident was caused by the closure of one side of the road.
Ineos confirmed that the rider was stable and conscious while being taken to hospital, and that he is undergoing further evaluation.
For her part, the representative of the winner of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, Xiomara Guerrero, indicated that what happened in the accident has not yet been specified in detail.
Guerrero pointed out that at the moment Bernal was fine and that Ineos is expected to offer a new statement with more details of the cyclist's conditions.
The Clinic of the University of La Sabana, where he is treated, issued a statement saying that the cyclist "must undergo surgery in the next few hours for presenting polytrauma: cervical and thoracic trauma, closed chest trauma, musculoskeletal trauma. and lower limb trauma.
