Tbilisi, Georgia

It's a small group that has lined up in front of the Ukrainian embassy in the Georgian capital.

An act of solidarity mixed with fears.

Marian Geguchazde, activist

»From our point of view, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is completely unjust.

We know the constant Russian aggression, we know how it feels.

We are united, we Georgians and Ukrainians - we feel the same pain.

And Ukraine is just the beginning, Georgia will be the next destination.«

Nodar Rukhadze, activist

»We Georgians know only too well what Russian aggression means.

But our government is doing nothing to support Ukraine.

It is our duty to publicly support our first strategic partner here, to show the Ukrainian people that we stand in solidarity with them, that we understand what they are going through.”

Like Ukraine, Georgia gained independence in 1991, and integration into the EU and NATO were common goals – all of which is now at stake for both countries.

Andrei Kazanov, Minister of the Ukrainian Embassy

“Ukraine needs international support and solidarity, from all nations.

Every vote counts.

Dear Georgians, we are particularly grateful for your solidarity!«

While the Europeans are still deliberating on the next steps, the United States are creating facts: Two weapons deliveries have already been made as part of military aid worth over 200 million dollars, and the second delivery has a total of 80 tons of cargo, including ammunition for front-line defense.

Because a Russian military action, the White House had warned last week, was "possible at any time."

The US State Department also asked its diplomats and embassy staff to leave Kiev.

And not just them: Given the threat of Russian military action, ALL US citizens living in Ukraine should also consider doing so, the State Department said in a recent statement.

Travel to Russia is also strongly discouraged.

According to a report in the New York Times, US President Joe Biden is due to decide this week whether to send troops to the Eastern European NATO countries.
