The wagons of the discovery village "Muck" are still in Rottenbuch despite the limitation of the camp.

The community was bothered by this so much that they sent a hearty letter to the association.

Rottenbuch - It sounds so harmonious: Volunteers organize a holiday offer for low-income families.

The city children come out into the country, live in shepherd's wagons, sit around the campfire in the evenings, romp across the meadows during the day.

The concept of "Muck - the discovery village" was well received in Rottenbuch (Weilheim-Schongau district).

For one season, in 2020, there was life on a meadow near the football field.

Since then, however, the cars have been abandoned.

The local council did not approve a second season.

And the administration has now taken drastic steps: In a letter, she informed the association that "the cars will be disposed of" if they are not picked up by February 4th.

Municipality of Rottenbuch threatens: wagons from the holiday camp have to disappear - the club is shaken

Pia Novak could hardly believe it when she received the letter in mid-January.

"It shakes me. You don't have the right to destroy someone else's property," says the chairwoman of the "Muck" association, which is based in Munich.

"These are five beautiful shepherd's wagons and a wooden circus wagon." Even if the village was no longer approved, "you don't throw away a project like this".

Discovery village in Rottenbuch - difficult search for a suitable location for a holiday camp

In 2016, the association began to implement its idea of a shepherd's wagon village for families who otherwise could not afford a holiday.

For three seasons, the houses on rollers stood on a campsite in Königsdorf.

It didn't fit there, "the orientation was different," says Novak.

The search for a new location began.

According to the chairman, this is “very difficult”.

Because the families should go out into nature, but the discovery village cannot be built outside because the wagons require a building permit.

In Rottenbuch, a place next to the Ammermühle would have been conceivable.

But Novak and her colleagues had concerns.

They saw the danger that a child could fall into the water.

In addition, neighboring meadows should not have been entered.

In consultation with Mayor Markus Bader, the club looked for another location.

And struck gold behind the sports field.

The TSV agreed and also let the holidaymakers use its sanitary facilities.

Holiday camp in Rottenbuch only limited to one year - several reasons for the decision

In the end, the season went well - Novak, Bader and TSV boss Björn Alexander Heidrich confirm that.

But the municipality still forbade the discovery village to take place again in 2021 at the same place.

"It was limited to one season, that was always clear," says Bader.

There was only one special permit for setting up the cars, no building rights.

However, the head of the town hall admits that it would have been possible at this point.

But there were various reasons not to approve the camp again.

In his eyes, it doesn't go well with what's happening next door.

On the sports field “there are young people, children, there is noise.

And that 20 meters away from the cars, which have no soundproofing”.

This is a problem, especially with victory celebrations in the evening - in 2020 there was no such thing due to the corona pandemic.

In addition, according to Bader, the hunters in this area were restricted because of the camp.

Another reason for the cancellation was that in 2021 the new storage area for the building yard was built next to the meadow.

"It just didn't fit." That's why the cars finally have to go.

Bader is sure that the sports club wants that too.

Holiday camp for families in Rottenbuch - TSV takes a stand: "I'm between the chairs"

TSV boss Heidrich makes the situation less urgent. The department heads have not complained to him about the shepherd's wagons that have been parked.

"I stand between the chairs," he admits honestly.

He has good memories of the discovery village.

"It was well attended over the summer, and we received positive feedback from the guests."

It goes against my nature that I dig up the water for another club.

TSV boss Heidrich

Minor problems could have been fixed quickly.

"I personally can't say anything negative.

I would have been happy if it had also worked out in 2021.” Possible celebrations in the clubhouse and a corresponding volume would not have been an obstacle, Heidrich suspects: “That could have been discussed beforehand.”

It doesn't bother him that the wagons are still on the premises leased from TSV, specifically next to the place where the Stockschützen are used.

"There are maybe two or three parking spaces that cannot be used." He does not ask Muck for a lease for the parking time.

"It goes against my nature that I dig up the water for another club." Because without the camp, the project would have no income.

After repeated requests to the association: the municipality is now sending out a “dramatic” letter

Nevertheless, in the letter from the municipality that owns the area, Novak is accused of exactly that: they simply leave the cars, do not pay for them.

The letter was sent out by branch manager Peter Vogt.

"We have asked the club several times to remove the cars," he explains.

Emails would not be responded to.

For the construction work on the building yard boxes, the municipality had to convert them at its own expense - this was the only way to prevent a removal order from the district office.

But now the community has run out of patience.

"Hence the drastic writing."

Mayor of Rottenbuch: "It didn't go the way we imagined."

Mayor Bader stands behind his employees, but calms them down.

"Of course, we don't just dispose of property like that," he says.

"But you don't put your belongings anywhere and don't worry about them anymore." Bader complains that the cooperation with Novak "happened".

"It didn't go the way we imagined." He doesn't want to be more specific.

"The chapter is just closed now."

Novak would like that too.

But it still stands there without a new parking space or a future location for the discovery village.

"We're looking, that's all I can do," says the Muck chairwoman.

“We have a great team and have already received several booking requests.

But we are missing a piece of land.”
