Following the seizure of about 135 kilograms of cocaine with a market value of about 140 million yuan at the Kwai Chung Customs Building Inspection Yard on the 10th of this month, Hong Kong Customs arrested two men involved in the case yesterday (24th) after further investigation.

Hu Weijun, senior supervisor of the Organised and Serious Crime Branch of the Customs, pointed out that customs officers selected and inspected a sea container that arrived in Hong Kong from Suriname, South America and was reported to be loaded with frozen meat through risk assessment and intelligence exchanges with overseas law enforcement agencies.
After inspection, personnel found 104 bricks of cocaine in the container full of goods, which were stored in the freezer unit at the front of the container.
After follow-up investigations, Customs officers took arrests yesterday. Two men, aged 28 and 33, were arrested in Sham Shui Po and Tsuen Wan respectively. The case is still under investigation.
Trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offence under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
If convicted, the maximum penalty is a $5 million fine and life imprisonment.
