Their testimonies recount broken childhoods, humiliations or trying quests for identity.
Since 2020, the Portemonnom collective has received thousands of testimonials from people wishing to change their surname.
"I was born with my mom's name.
At the age of 5, the man she lived with imposed that I bear his name.
This man is not my parent.
In addition, for more than 10 years, I suffered psychological and sexual violence from him”,
confides for example Véronique, 50, in one of the many videos shot by the association.
In February 2017, the latter filed a name change file.
A year later, she learned that her request had been denied for lack of evidence.
“The constitution of the file, having to justify oneself… it is extremely heavy.
It destroys even more when you have a negative answer”,
denounces Véronique.
"Being able to recover my mom's name would be a kind of rebirth for me,"
she pleads.
