Aryeh Deri admitted this morning (Tuesday) to minor tax offenses, and was convicted as part of a plea deal signed with him. This, after resigning from the Knesset on Sunday. Deri arrived at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court accompanied by his beautiful wife.

Arguments for punishment are now being heard from both sides. The courts are not inclined to intervene in closed plea bargains, but it is likely that President Shmuel Herbst will examine the settlement before sentencing Deri, and especially the issue of defamation. The representative of the State Attorney's Office, Adv. Yaron Golomb, presented the plea agreement: "The parties reached an agreement

. , I will briefly emphasize the social values that are harmed by the commission of tax offenses. Tax offenders undermine equality in carrying the tax burden on the citizens of the state.

They severely harm Israeli citizens who rely on the services provided by the government, which is funded by tax money.

A tax deduction from the state impairs the state's ability to provide transportation and security education services. "

Deri came to court as a private person, after resigning from the Knesset on Sunday, as part of the agreements he reached with the State Attorney's Office regarding the issue of defamation.

The original letter of suspicion against Deri included bribery offenses. At the end of negotiations with Deri's defense attorney Adv. Navot Tel Tzur, the indictment to be submitted to the court this morning is significantly diluted - Deri will plead guilty and be convicted of tax offenses under the Income Tax Ordinance and Real Estate Tax Law, he will be sentenced to probation and a NIS 180,000 fine. The creative solution that the ombudsman and Deri came up with on the issue of defamation is that Deri will resign from the Knesset before the hearing, and thus the prosecution will not claim defamation since he was not elected by the public.

The Movement for Quality of Government petitioned against Deri's easy plea bargain, but the High Court rejected the petition and ruled that "the petitioner claimed that MK Deri's resignation was a 'patent patent' intended to pave his way back to the Knesset."

However, the court left an opening to petition against Deri's return to public office.

"We both learned that 'for everything, time; and time for every object, under the sky' If and when this is done, then the petitioner is well acquainted with the way to this court and the gates of the court remain open."
