Members of the Legislative Council of the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong, Cheng Yongshun, Chen Hengpin and Ge Peifan, met with the Deputy Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Ho Kai-ming, this morning, asking the authorities to make a public report as soon as possible, and asking the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children to change its management.

Zheng Yongshun: It should be checked whether it is suitable to continue to operate children's homes
Zheng Yongshun said that more than 30 children have been abused in the Tongleju incident and 20 staff members have been arrested. He is disappointed that the contents of the investigation report have not been made public.
He urged the authorities to explain the loopholes in the department's supervision mechanism and seriously review whether the Children's Protection Association is suitable for continuing to operate children's homes.
Ge Peifan also questioned whether the Society for the Protection of Children could continue to protect children, and was angry that the organization had not officially apologized to the general public for the incident.
She believes that the management concerned is duty-bound, and "the government should demand that the entire management needs to be replaced."
She also hopes that the bureau will publish the contents of the investigation report as soon as possible to let the public know the situation, and not to cover up the wrongdoing of the staff.
Ge pointed out that the government has sent staff from the SWD to the Society for the Protection of Children, who are mainly responsible for supervising the work of the staff and ensuring that abuse and unreasonable caring behaviors will no longer occur. He hopes the government will explain more details to the public as soon as possible.

Deng Jiabiao sent a letter requesting a special meeting
Tang Jiabiao, a member of the Legislative Council of the Federation of Trade Unions and the vice chairman of the Welfare Affairs Committee, said that he had taken the lead in writing a letter asking the committee to hold a special meeting to discuss the Tong Leju incident.
As far as he knows, the relevant investigative committee has completed its report today and will submit it to the government.
He urged a public report and urged the government to respond in a concrete way.
He hoped that the authorities will arrange a special meeting with the Welfare Services Committee and invite the senior executives and even the chairman of the Society for the Protection of Children to explain the incident. The Labour and Welfare Bureau and law enforcement departments will also attend the meeting so that the public can know the truth.
Deng also pointed out that the Children's Protection Association is an organization continuously funded by the government, and he does not rule out requiring the authorities to impose greater penalties, such as punishment for receiving subsidies.
He called on the Child Protection Committee to proactively report on how to bring other services to a professional level in the future.
