The Cologne CDU wants to initiate party exclusion proceedings against the chairman of the arch-conservative Values Union, Max Otte.
The district association decided that together with the state association and the federal party, said the spokeswoman for the Cologne CDU of the German Press Agency.
The AfD had proposed Otte as their candidate for the office of Federal President.
Cologne/Berlin – "I'm happy to accept the AfD's nomination," Otte told the "Spiegel" on Tuesday.
He considers the proposal "a great honor."
NRW Prime Minister and CDU state leader Hendrik Wüst had just asked Otte to leave the CDU.
In the "Rheinische Post" (Wednesday), Wüst announced an exclusion procedure should Otte run for the AfD for the office of Federal President.

The Cologne CDU spokeswoman emphasized that Otto had been observed very critically for a long time and assumed that the conditions for a party expulsion were now in place.
Otte is a member of the Cologne district association.
The procedure should be initiated as quickly as possible, but the next steps required for this must also be “done properly”, explained the Cologne spokeswoman.
Shortly before, the CDU district chairman there, Bernd Petelkau, had already stated in a statement that his association was aiming for an exclusion procedure "in consultation with the state and federal party".
