Daycare children in Lower Saxony must be regularly tested for corona infection from February 15, 2022.

This applies to all children from the age of three.

Hanover – From February 15th, many parents will have to prepare for a corona test in daycare centers in Lower Saxony.

This obligation is provided three times a week for children from the age of three, as a spokesman for the Ministry of Education told the German Press Agency on Tuesday evening in Hanover.

"I support the way to mandatory testing in the daycare centers," said SPD politician and Minister of Education Grant Hendrik Tonne last Tuesday.

The logistics are currently being planned so that the tests are reliably available.

From February 15th, daycare children from the age of 3 must also be regularly tested for the corona virus in Lower Saxony.

In addition, it is important to end the vote within the state government on the subject.

"As soon as both are in place, the obligation to test will be activated," explained the minister.

In the past, the Greens and the Verdi union had put considerable pressure on politicians in Lower Saxony to introduce compulsory testing in daycare centers.

Tonne himself brought the requirement into play at the beginning of January.

"We are pleased that our examination of the obligation to test for kindergarten children is increasingly being met with a positive response from daycare providers, municipalities, trade unions and associations," he said.
