El Chapo Guzmán sentenced to life imprisonment 3:51

A panel of appellate judges upheld the conviction of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, a former leader of a Mexican drug cartel.
In their decision filed Tuesday, the three judges ruled that US District Judge Brian Cogan conducted the three-month trial "with diligence and impartiality, after issuing a series of meticulously crafted pre-trial rulings." .
'El Chapo' Guzmán was convicted in 2019 of 10 charges, including involvement in an ongoing criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, and firearms charges.
He was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years and ordered to pay US$12.6 billion in forfeiture.
CNN has reached out to an attorney for Guzmán for comment.

Guzmán's appeal argued that his conviction should be overturned for reasons including that he was denied his right to a fair trial and the effective assistance of a lawyer due to his strict pre-trial detention conditions, that a new trial should have been granted based on on alleged jury misconduct, among other arguments.
The panel of appellate judges said in its decision that "we conclude that none of these claims have merit..."
CNN has reached out to a spokesman for the prosecutors for comment.
Guzmán is expected to serve his sentence in the most secure prison in the country in Florence, Colorado.
