Penzing – Strong performance: At the German Championships in Ruhpolding at the weekend, the Penzinger Stockschützen, who are used to success, were able to celebrate two podium finishes.

In the U19 age group, Stefan Gießer had his first appearance at a national championship - and also secured the German championship title.

At the Bavarian Championships in December Gießer still showed a poor performance.

But with renewed self-confidence after winning the Bundesliga with the men's team, Gießer was once again in top form.

With a sensational 336 (170/166) points, he was in the lead with 27 points after the preliminary round.

In the final, the 16-year-old once again benefited from his strong nerves.

With excellent performances, he brought the lead home safely.

With that, Gießer added up another 330 (148/182) points to his tally and secured the German U19 championship title with 666 points.

Particularly impressive: the last round with 182 points, a personal best for Gießer.

He was then nominated for the European Championships in Klobenstein (South Tyrol), which will take place from February 14th to 19th.

Simon Egen only found out two days before the competition that he was allowed to take part in the individual U16 class as a substitute at the German Championships.

Despite the short preparation time, he showed a solid performance in the preliminary round with 218 (119/99) points - rank 5. The goal of qualifying for the final of the top eight he achieved surprisingly confidently.

Youth coach Matthias Peischer was quite satisfied: "After 14th place at the Bavarian Championships, that was already a great success for Simon."

For the decisive final rounds, however, the medal places were a long way off: At this point, Egen was more than 30 points short of bronze.

"I had hopes that he could do a good job again.

Since the prospects of a medal were slim, he was able to play free,” said Peischer.

In fact, Egen managed a strong run with 138 points in the first round of the final, which allowed him to move up a place - and now suddenly he was still in the middle of the medal race, as other competitors were weakening.

"It is often the case that the athletes have a drop in performance when they realize at such a moment that they still have a chance," reports Peischer from his experience as a trainer.

But his cousin taught him otherwise:

The 15-year-old high school student scored another 138 points and pushed himself into third place in an exciting final sprint.

With 494 points, he was nine points ahead of fourth-placed on the podium, the greatest individual success for Egen and at the same time a success for FC Penzing.

Jonas Aschenbrenner tried his luck in the U14 class.

Unfortunately, he was not able to show his full potential and ended up in 10th place with 145 points. The U16 team of FC Penzing, led by coach Georg Willig, also started the team game with high hopes.

While Simon Egen, Jonas Aschenbrenner, Max Fahrmeier and Manuel Karpf had qualified with the Bavarian championship title, they hoped to be able to perform well at the German championship as well.

But this time it didn't work out: In the end, the Penzinger quartet only managed a single victory, which was only enough for sixth place.

Next week, again in Ruhpolding, the Bundesliga winners of the Penzinger men's team will try their luck in the German championship.
