Dozens of animals have died tonight in a fire in a pet store located on Rambla de Badal (Sants), in Barcelona.
The fire at the Món Animal establishment, which specializes in exotic animals, has caused the death of dozens of pets, mainly reptiles, fish and birds.
The incident took place after 11 p.m. on Monday, and the causes are being investigated, as explained by the Sants-Montjuïc district councillor, Marc Serra.
Several crews from the Barcelona Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire, which forced the preventive evacuation of the residents of the building, who were able to return to their homes at dawn, after 05:00.
The fire has not caused serious injuries, apart from some affected by smoke inhalation, but it caused the death of the animals that were in the store.
“The fire has been extinguished by the Barcelona Fire Department without any seriously injured neighbors.
However, we have to regret the death of the animals that were in the store", said Marc Serra, who stated that the establishment was "a much-loved business in the neighbourhood".
