Fürth wants to become a “sponge city”.

Citizens should support the project and store rainwater in the future.

Otherwise drainage fees are due.

Fürth - Fürth* wants to contribute to climate protection and develop into a "sponge city".

Rainwater should be used sustainably in the future and not simply flow into the sewage system, reports

nordbayern.de

.

The city plans to absorb and store water like a sponge.

This will make the city more resistant to flooding and heat, it is said.

In the summer, Fürth doesn't heat up as much and groundwater can replenish itself more easily.

In addition, the risk of flooding in the event of flooding is reduced.

Fürth wants to become a “sponge city”: Citizens should support projects

In order for the city to be able to implement its project, however, it is dependent on the help of the citizens.

Homeowners should get a cistern.

The rainwater is then collected in the underground collection tank.

Anyone who does not use something like this should pay a so-called rainwater fee.

This occurs when rainwater is drained from the roof into the sewage system via a rainwater downpipe.

It is calculated according to the sealed area that is connected to the sewage system.

But there is also a catch for cistern users.

They too should pay the fee in full if the collection tank is connected to the sewage system.

Uniform fee regulation required

There has been heavy criticism from the Greens.

According to the report, they demand that the cistern owners not be charged the full fee.

This is also the case in Nuremberg* and Erlangen*.

According to nordbayern.de

, city councilor Harald Riedel emphasizes that the citizens need a financial incentive so that they can support the city in its plans

.

Mayor Thomas Jung also spoke out in favor of a uniform regulation with the neighboring cities.

Results will probably be available in the spring.

Fürth: Construction projects should support climate protection

In new construction projects, however, the city is already taking the principle of the "sponge city" into account, says Jonas Schubert, head of the urban planning department. For example, more green spaces will be used. Trees in particular played an important role as they would have a positive effect on the urban climate. When it comes to building areas, Fürth prefers lower-lying areas, among other things.

But the sponge city measures are not always complied with, criticizes Green Councilor Riedel.

In some projects this works better than in others, he emphasizes in an interview with the

Fürther Nachrichten (FN)

.

According to the head of the urban planning department, Schubert, the aim is for a climate protection concept to be integrated into all construction projects in the future, so that all construction projects then support the environmental goals of the city of Fürth.
